Watermelons and gray soil transferred yesterday from north to south

Nicosia, Aug 25 (CNA) -- Two Greek Cypriot and one Turkish Cypriot trucks carrying products crossed yesterday the dividing line in Cyprus, thus implemetning the "Green Line" regulation adopted by the EU, Cyprus' Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister George Lillikas told CNA today, adding that ''the three lorries were allowed to travel without any problem.''

Lillikas said that two Greek Cypriot lorries passed yesterday afternoon to Cyprus' Turkish occupied areas and returned to the government-controlled areas carrying watermelons while the Turkish Cypriot truck travelled to the government-controlled areas carrying gray soil.

He noted that the Cyprus government has ascertained that both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots are interested in trade transactions between them, noting that on behalf of the Cyprus Republic the whole procedure goes on smoothly and according to the EU regulation.

He assured that the government will do everything possible ''to facilitate these transactions because we believe that they bring the two communities closer and create a positive environment and conditions that will help finding a solution to the Cyprus problem that is our ultimate goal.''
