Cypriot Doctors in Sri Lanka and Gaza

Nicosia, Jan 3 (CNA) -- A second mission of the Cypriot branch of the Doctors of the World arrived today at the tsunami hit area of Galle, Sri Lanka, carrying 2,5 tones of humanitarian aid of anti-diarrhea drugs and cortisone, needed for the relief of quake stricken people.

Another mission arrives today in Gaza aiming to conduct surgeries on children of Palestinian refugees and carry humanitarian aid.

President of Cypriot Doctors of the World Elias Papadopoulos said that the first mission, already in the area of Galle vaccinating people, has said that there are no cases of cholera, as far as they can tell.

The Cypriot team currently in Sri Lanka (Doctor Yiannis Taliotis, nurse Lenia Lambrou and biologist, epidemiologist and genetist Matheos Demetriades) had informed the local branch about the need for anti-diarrhea drugs and cortisone.
