    Cypriot scientists discuss tsunamis and earthquakes

    Nicosia, Feb 5 (CNA) ---- Scientists from both sides of the island, Turkey and other countries, who have participated in a seminar entitled ''Earthquakes and tsunamis know no boundaries'', believe that Cyprus is set to be hit again by a tsunami sometime in the future.

    Government plans to open temporary crossing point to occupied areas

    Nicosia, Feb 5 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government intends to open on a temporary basis a crossing point leading to the northern Turkish occupied areas of the country, until such time that another crossing point at Ledra street opens to Greek and Turkish Cypriots, the Director of the President's Diplomatic Office Ambassador Tasos Tzionis has said.

    Speaking to Turkish Cypriot journalists, he welcomed the preliminary agreement on extending the Green Line regulation, relating to trade of Turkish Cypriot products throughout the island and to the European Union, saying this was a ''very positive step''.

    Evidence on murder of Turkish Cypriots communicated to Interpol

    Nicosia, Feb 5 (CNA) Director of the President's Diplomatic Office Ambassador Tasos Tzionis has said that the government had forwarded to Interpol all available information in connection with a murder last month of a Turkish Cypriot businessman, his wife and daughter, which took place in the southern government controlled part of the island.

    Speaking to Turkish Cypriot journalists, Tzionis also said that consequently, Turkey, which by virtue of its occupation army in northern Cyprus exercises effective control in the northern part of the country, must have received this evidence.

    Nicosia, Feb 5 (CNA) -- The government has expressed concern that the rising influx of Turkish nationals in Cyprus' occupied areas poses a very serious problem and would complicate matters even more at future negotiations for a political settlement, the Director of the President's Diplomatic Office Ambassador Tasos Tzionis has said.

    London, Feb 5 (CNA) -- Two European Commission regulations on financial aid to the Turkish Cypriots and direct trade between the EU and Cyprus' Turkish occupied areas are not tantamount to recognition of the illegal Turkish Cypriot regime, British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw has said.

    Nicosia, Feb 5 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos stressed here today he remains committed to a bizonal, bicommunal federation that would bring social and economic reunification and would not allow either of the island's two communities to lead the common state to permanent deadlock.
