Archbishop Iakovos passes away

New York, Apr 11 (CNA) -- Archbishop Iakovos, 93, spiritual leader of Greek Orthodox Christians in the Western Hemisphere from 1959 to 1996, died April 10, 2005 from a pulmonary ailment.

The former Archbishop of America, who recently underwent surgery to correct a respiratory ailment remained hospitalised and died right after the conclusion of the Greek Independence Parade in New York City, an event he enjoyed as an Archbishop for 37 years.

Nicosia, Apr 11 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

Tuesday and Wednesday: 12/04/2005 - 13/04/2005

Mainly fine weather with temporal medium and high cloud. Northeasterly to Southeasterly light to moderate breezes, 3 to 4 BF. Temperatures will range between 13C and 30C inland, between 13C and 26C over the coastal and between 10C and 21C over the mountainous areas.

Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 14/04/2005 - 15/04/2005

Fair weather, but will gradually become partly cloudy. Risk of isolated showers on Thursday, while temporal showers and isolated thunderstorm are expected on Fridya. Southwesterly to Northwesterly breezes will predominate. Significant fall of temperature.

China supports just Cyprus settlement

Nicosia, Apr 11 (CNA) - China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has always supported and will continue to support a just solution of the Cyprus problem in the UN framework, Chairman of the Sichuan Provincial People's Congress of the People's Republic of China Zhang Xuezhong said today.

Speaking through an interpreter after a meeting with Cypriot House of Representatives President Demetris Christofias, Zhang Xuezhong, who is heading a delegation currently visiting Cyprus at the invitation of the House, said ''we fully understand the efforts you are making for a just and viable solution of the Cyprus problem.''
