    Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos has reassured that Cyprus would exhaust all existing means in order to deal with the influx of thousands of foreign nationals who come to Cyprus, fleeing wartorn Lebanon.

    Asked whether Cyprus has reached its limits regarding the continuous influx of Lebanon evacuees, he said we are doing everything possible and we will exhaust all possibilities we have.

    President Papadopoulos also expressed his sincere thanks to all volunteers who lend a helping hand to the thousands of people who arrive at the Cypriot ports every day.

    [02] UN - LEBANON - HUMANITARIAN AID

    Jan Egeland, the UN emergency relief coordinator has expressed the hope that the first convoy to Lebanon with humanitarian aid will be able to be sent off on Wednesday morning.

    Speaking at Larnaca Airport where he stopped over from his visit to Beirut on his way to Israel, Egeland said Cyprus is playing an important role in our operation, noting that now we are using Limassol (port) as the staging ground for feeder vessels to go out to Beirut and we hope soon to Tyre in the south and to Tripoli in the north.

    [03] CYPRUS - RICE - LEBANON - ISRAEL

    US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice expressed the gratitude of the US for the remarkable cooperation with the government of the Republic of Cyprus, in evacuating US citizens from wartorn Lebanon.

    Rice expressed her thanks to Cypriot Foreign Minister George Lillikas, during a short meeting they had at Larnaca airport, where Rice made a stop over before heading to Lebanon and Israel.

    [04] EU COMMISSIONER - CYPRUS - LEBANON

    European Commissioner for Environment Stavros Demas, as the Commissioner responsible for Civil Protection, is due to arrive on Tuesday in Cyprus while EU civil defence officials are already on the island with a view to fully utilize the transport means available in EU states to transfer Lebanons evacuees to their homelands.

    Head of the EU`s Representation in Cyprus Themis Themistocleous told CNA that Commissioner Demas will participate on Tuesday in a meeting in Larnaca with Cypriot Foreign Minister George Lillikas and the Ministrys Crisis Team to coordinate efforts regarding the Lebanon crisis.

    In Brussels, the EU Committee of the Permanent Representatives (COREPER) has praised the role of the Republic of Cyprus in helping foreign nationals flee war-stricken Lebanon.
