Representatives of the leaders of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities met again with a view to promote the implementation of the agreement reached by the leaders of the two sides on July 8 for the establishment of bicommunal working teams of experts to discuss the substance of the Cyprus problem and practical day-to-day issues.

UNFICYP Spokesman Brian Kelly confirmed to CNA that the meeting between the representatives of the leaders of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities, Tasos Tzionis and Rasit Pertev respectively, took place this afternoon at the office of Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Nicosia Michael Moller, in the Nicosia UN buffer zone.

Kelly said the two ``will continue to meet to move the process forward.``

The Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot sides exchanged on Monday lists of issues to be discussed concerning the substance of the Cyprus problem, in accordance with the agreement reached on 8 July 2006 between the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus in the presence of UN Undersecretary General for political affairs Ibrahim Gambari.

    [02] VALINAKIS TURKEY CYPRUS

Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yiannis Valinakis has called on Turkey to immediately implement the additional protocol of the Ankara Agreement.

Speaking during a meeting of Ambassadors in the Greek capital, Valinakis said this obligation was outside any logical bargaining and efforts for compensation and accused Turkey of trying ``to associate and gain compensation from this obligation with the issue of lifting the so called isolation of the Turkish Cypriots.``

    [03] CYPRIOT MINISTER OIL SLICK

Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment Fotis Fotiou and scientists from the Oceanographic Centre, describe as ``unlikely`` for the time being the oil spill caused by the Israeli bombing of Lebanon to reach Cyprus` shores, noting that the Cypriot state services are on alert.

Fotiou told reporters, after being informed by the Oceanography Centre of the University of Cyprus, and verified by satellite images and other photographic material, Cyprus is not in any danger, noting that he does not undermine the ecological disaster of the Mediterranean, and for this reason he asked Commissioner for the Environment Stavros Demas to undertake an initiative for an action plan to handle the situation.

    [04] HUMANITARIAN AID BEIRUT

A total of 65 tonnes of humanitarian relief supplies from the Doctors of the World, Cyprus, arrived in Beirut on board the Indian naval ship INS Betwa.

The vessel has been participating in the evacuation operations of Indian nationals and others from Lebanon.
