Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos has congratulated the newly-elected Archbishop of the Church of Cyprus, Bishop of Paphos Chrysostomos.

Chrysostomos said that any problems that may exist will soon be sorted out.

"As of today we open a new chapter between the Church and the Presidency. I would be happy with successes you have for the good of the country and its people," the new Archbishop said to the President.

Chrysostomos received 73 votes, his only opponent Limassol Bishop Athanasios got 57, with one invalid vote. The enthronment of the new Archbishop will probably take place next Sunday.
