[01] SPOKESMAN - HOUSE RESOLUTION - BASES
Government Spokesman Christodoulos Pashiardis said on Friday that the
government is carefully examining a resolution adopted unanimously by
the House on Representatives on Thursday, regarding the financial
obligations of Britain towards the Republic of Cyprus for the British
Bases on the island.
Pashiardis said ``the content of the resolution is being examined by
the government in conjunction with other studies that have been made
and other decisions in the past to see if there is any new element.``
``The government respects and takes seriously into consideration the
unanimous wish of the House,`` he noted, adding that the issue was
being tackled by the government with prudence and responsibility.
Pashiardis pointed out that the government would be taking a stance on
the British Bases when it decides that the time is right to raise such
issues.
[02] RUSSIAN MINISTER - INTERVIEW
Russian Minister of Agriculture Alexey Gordeev begins a three-day visit
to Cyprus on Friday, during which he will be received by President
Tassos Papadopoulos and hold talks with Cypriot Minister of
Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Photis Photiou, as well
as European Commissioner for Health Marcos Kyprianou.
In an interview with CNA, Gardeev said ``Russia and Cyprus can
successfully complement each other in agricultural produce,`` adding
that during his talks on the island ``we will discuss in detail how to
strengthen commercial and economic relations, our relations in the
sector of agricultural science and education.``
