    Russian Minister of Agriculture Alexey Gordeev said he was pleased with the development of the economic and trade relations between Cyprus and Russia.

    The Russian Minister, who is paying an official visit to Cyprus, was received Saturday by President of the Republic of Cyprus Tassos Papadopoulos.

    Earlier the Russian Minister began consultations with Cypriot EU Commissioner for Health, Marcos Kyprianou, which will continue later in the afternoon.

    Gordeev also held talks on agricultural issues with his Cypriot counterpart, Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment, Fotis Fotiou, during which they discussed issues that concern cooperation between Cyprus and Russia in the agricultural sector.

    In statements after his meeting with President Papadopoulos, Gordeev expressed great optimism regarding the development of the economic and commercial ties between his country and Cyprus.

    [02] TROODOS RALLY

    The UAE`s Sheikh Khalid Al-Qassimi and co-driver Nick Beech held third overall after four timed special stages of the 2007 Troodos Rally in Cyprus on Saturday.

    The Troodos Rally, round three of the 2007 FIA Middle East Rally Championship, got underway with a ceremonial start in Eleftheria Square in Nicosia on Friday evening.

    The event has attracted all the championship regulars, including current championship leader Sheikh Khalid Al-Qassimi in the Team Abu Dhabi Subaru Impreza WRX STi, supported by Pirelli, defending champion Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah and former championship runner-up Sheikh Abdullah Al-Qassimi.

    The event is set to finish in Nicosia on Sunday afternoon after two days of high-speed action over twisty gravel special stages in the Troodos foothills between Nicosia and Larnaca.
