  • [01] SPOKESMAN - COMMISSION - CYPRUS - EUROZONE

The Cyprus government expressed its full satisfaction with the conclusions of the European Commission which underlined that Cyprus has achieved a high degree of sustainable economic convergence with the euro area member states and that it fulfils the necessary conditions to adopt the euro.

Government Spokesman Vassilis Palmas pointed out in a written statement that the Government has achieved the great national goal of Cyprus accession to the Eurozone and noted that the Commissions Report, which opens the way for Cyprus accession to the Eurozone on January 1st, 2008, is a result of intensive and coordinated effort for the achievement of this national goal we had set out.

[02] BRITISH HIGH COMMISSION - SO-CALLED COMPENSATION COMMISSION

British High Commission in Cyprus said it has not, does not and will not advise anyone to apply to the so- called compensation commission for Greek Cypriot properties in the Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus.

``We have not, do not and will not advise anyone to apply to the `Immovable Properties Commission`. Our Travel Advice is very clear. It makes no reference to the `IPC` and highlights the significant risks involved in buying property in northern Cyprus. We will not deviate from that line in future,`` a statement issued here today by the British High Commission said.
