We both feel strongly about the importance of seeking justice for the people of Cyprus in view of the terrible events of the summer of 1974, John Brademas told reporters.

    [03] GREECE - CYPRUS - CULTURE

Greek Minister of Culture George Voulgarakis and Cypriot Minister of Education and Culture Akis Kleanthous have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of culture in Athens for the period 2007-2009.

The two Ministers discussed bilateral cultural issues and the protecting of the cultural heritage of Cyprus in the Turkish occupied areas of the country and agreed that there is potential for further cooperation. ``We have signed the memorandum and decided on a series of more practical procedures for our mutual benefit,`` Voulgarakis said, adding that they agreed to examine this in a practical manner in mid-November.

Regarding the protection of Cyprus` cultural heritage, Voulgarakis said this was a pivotal matter of great interest to both countries and noted that a protocol of cooperation could be adopted similar to those Greece has signed with other countries. Kleanthous said the meeting was ``very fruitful`` and that his Ministry was interested in cooperation with the Greek Ministry because ``we need help mainly in developing and promoting our cultural heritage.``
