[01] HOUSE PRESIDENT - CZECH REPUBLIC - VISITPrime Minister of the Czech Republic Mirek Topolanek has expressed hope that the Cyprus problem would soon be solved, while the President of the country`s parliament Miloslav Vlcek expressed support for a just settlement based on UN resolutions and international and European law.Topolanek and Vlcek met in Prague on Friday with Cypriot House of Representatives President Demetris Christofias, who is on an official visit to the Czech Republic, at the invitation of Vlcek. Speaking after his meeting with Christofias, Topolanek said he hoped a solution would soon be found to the Cyprus problem. Christofias said the fact a solution has not been found is due to the Turkish stance, adding that if the Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots were left to their own devices, without foreign interventions, they would be able to reach a settlement. He added that Cyprus supports Turkey`s EU accession course, on the condition that Turkey meets the obligations it undertook towards the EU and its member states. Vlcek expressed his country`s support to a settlement based on UN resolutions and international and European law, adding that he discussed with Christofias the potential of further expanding bilateral relations in all sectors. Christofias said the Czech position on the Cyprus problem was clear and traditional and that cooperation between the two countries is longstanding in all sectors. Before the meeting with Vlcek, Christofias attended a Czech parliament plenary session, in the presence of Topolanek. He is also scheduled to meet with Czech President Vaclav Klaus, President of the Senate Premysl Sobotka, Deputy President of the parliament Vojtech Filip, and Minister for legislative issues Cyril Svoboda. Christofias will also attend a formal dinner hosted in his honour by Vlcek and will meet with members of the Cypriot community in the Czech Republic. He returns home on October 27.
