[01] CAIR - TRADE UNIONS - AGREEMENT
National carrier Cyprus Airways and trade unions SEK and PEO signed an
agreement on Monday concerning the transfer of the ground handling
services at Larnaca and Paphos Airports to the Swissport GAP
Vassilopoulos (Cyprus) Ltd joint venture.
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Ministers of Labour
and Social Insurance, Sotiroula Charalambous and Finance Charilaos
Stavrakis.
In her statements, Charalambous said that a problem that was troubling
Cyprus Airways labour relations had been resolved and the agreement is
in the interest of both sides, helping Cyprus Airways proceed with its
plans and benefiting workers.
[02] GOVERMENT - HOOLIGANISM
The Cypriot Government has condemned recent outbreaks of hooliganism
and juvenile delinquency incidents and expressed its determination to
tackle the problem in collaboration with society and all the relevant
bodies.
Speaking after a meeting on Tuesday under President of the Republic
Demetris Christofias to examine the situation and discuss measures to
be taken, Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou said that the
Government condemns with determination and abhorrence the latest
incidents of violence and hooliganism, which occurred within and
outside the stadiums.
He described Tuesday`s meeting, attended by Minister of Justice and
Public Order Kypros Chrysostomides, Attorney General Petros Clerides
and Chief of Police Iacovos Papacostas, as a starting point for the
Government to take the necessary measures and decisions towards the
creation of a social alliance to tackle violence and crime, adding that
everybody has a role to play in this alliance.
