[01] CABINET-MOURNINGThe Council of Ministers decided Friday to declare a three-day official mourning in memory of the late Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos who died today of lung cancer.The Cabinet observed a minutes silence in memory of the late President. Flags at all public buildings and schools will fly at half mast between today and Monday, when the late President will be laid to rest, Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou said after todays extraordinary Cabinet meeting, following the announcement of Papadopoulos death. A book of condolences will open at the Foreign Ministry and all the embassies of the Republic abroad. Cyprus President Demetris Christofias and the members of the Cabinet as well as the Spokesman and the Under-Secretary to the President will all sign the book. The Cabinet also decided, the Spokesman said, will attend the funeral which will take place on Monday morning at the states expense. The head of the Cyprus Orthodox Church Archbishop Chrysostomos II will officiate the funeral service. The Spokesman announced that all official events and public engagements of members of the government have been postponed. [02] BARROSO - PAPADOPOULOS DEATHThe European Commission has learned with great sadness of the passing away today of former President of Cyprus Republic, Tassos Papadopoulos, underlines to his message to President of Cyprus Republic, Demetris Christofias, President of European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso.The Commission and myself will remember him for his unwavered love for his country but also for his sharpness of mind, hard work and dedication to duty and his courage in pursuit of his convictions. On behalf of the European Commission and himself, Barroso presented to President Christofias, Papadopoulos family and to all citizens of Cyprus, his most sincere condolences.
