[01] CHURCH ECHR TURKEY
The Church of Cyprus will resort to the European Court of Human Rights
to report Turkey for violation of its rights and usurpation of its
property in the Turkish occupied areas.
Speaking at a press conference, Archbishop Chrysostomos II said the
case against Turkey to the ECHR has been prepared and the date
coincides with the anniversary of the fall of Constantinople in 1453
when the Byzantine Empire came to an end.
The Archbishop noted that now is the time for the Church of Cyprus to
turn to the ECHR to report, in the most official manner, Turkey for its
violation of our rights as Church, for the usurpation of our property
in the occupied areas, for the fact that we are not allowed to visit
our holy sites for worship which is an undeniable right and for
depriving us the right to maintain our churches which are in a bad
state and ready to collapse.
