Stephanou was speaking at a memorial service in Aradipou for the heroes of the area killed in the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus.

As he noted in his speech, the Turkish invasion had brought the disaster, devastation, pain, refugees, missing persons and enclaved as well as the occupation of a large part of the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.

The days of July and August awaken painful memories of the results of the 1974 twin crime against our country which still remains divided due to the Turkish occupation, he said.

He stressed that the achievement of a solution which will end the occupation and reunify the country and its people is a dire necessity, adding that the continuation of the division poses a lethal dangers for our country and our people.

Therefore, nobody should compromise with the thought that the situation, as it has been formed so far, suits us, the Government Spokesman warned.
