  • [01] NATIONAL COUNCIL - SESSION

The morning session of the first day of the two-day National Council meeting concluded with three political parties submitting their positions on the Cyprus problem and the forthcoming progress report on Turkey`s EU accession course in December.

The parties that submitted their views were the Democratic Party, the Movement of Social Democrats EDEK and the European Party.

The meeting will continue on Monday afternoon and tomorrow, with AKEL, the Democratic Rally and the Ecologists and Environmentalists Movement submitting their positions.

The Council, made up of representatives of parliamentary parties, is also set to discuss the latest development in the Cyprus issue, in view of the start of the second phase of UN-led direct negotiations, last week, between the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus.

During the two day Council session, President Christofias is expected to brief the members of the Council on the latest developments in the Cyprus issue.
