[01] PRESIDENT CHRISTOFIAS - TALKS
President of the Republic Demetris Christofias said here Thursday that
efforts are underway to avoid complications in the UN-sponsored peace
talks.
The President made this remark as he departed from the site of the
talks, shortly after Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu had left the
meeting.
Asked by reporters if there is a complication since Eroglu had left 15
minutes after the President had arrived, with an hours delay, the
President replied We are trying not to have any complications.
The property issue was expected to be the main item on the agenda.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied
its northern third. President Christofias and former Turkish Cypriot
leader Mehmet Ali Talat began peace talks in September 2008. Talks now
continue with the President and Eroglu.
