[01] PRESIDENT CHRISTOFIAS - NEGOTIATIONSPresident Demertris Christofias has said that the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot sides have decided their further action, in the framework of direct negotiations on the Cyprus problem, saying that it has been agreed to exchange documents, outline afresh their positions on the property issue and continue the discussion.Christofias also said there will be no meeting between himself, UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. In statements after his meeting with Eroglu, and asked whether the negotiations resumed on a favourable note, the President replied: we shall see, adding that the climate was cordial during the meeting. We have decided out further actions, he said and wished that omens for the negotiations will be good. We will exchange documents, he noted, adding that the two sides will outline again their positions in general terms on the issue of properties and continue the discussion. Asked if talks will be accelerated, the President replied: I wouldnt call it intensification. We will meet three times until we leave for New York. He noted that two of the meetings will begin in the morning and continue in the afternoon while their next meeting on Friday will take place as usual, a morning meeting. Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37% of its territory. Todays meeting between the two leaders was the first after a brief summer recess.
