President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu will be meeting on Friday in the context of direct talks to solve the Cyprus problem.

The meeting will be held at the old Nicosia airport in the UN buffer zone.

After their last meeting on August 31, the UN Secretary General`s Special Adviser on Cyprus Alexander Downer said the leaders of the two communities had agreed to meet on Friday and then, on September 7 and 10, would be holding intensive talks.

    [03] FM - HEBRON ATTACK - CONDEMNATION

Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Markos Kyprianou strongly condemns the terrorist attack near the city of Hebron that resulted in the death of four Israeli civilians and called on the international community to strengthen the determination of the parties to the Middle East process to engage vigorously for a just, lasting and comprehensive peace in the region.

In a statement, the Cypriot FM said I strongly condemn the terrorist attack near the city of Hebron that resulted to the tragic loss of the life of four innocent Israeli civilians. On behalf of the Government and the People of Cyprus I would like to extend my sincere condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims.

The Cypriot Minister said he firmly believes that the international community has a duty not to allow those who oppose a comprehensive peace in the Middle East to derail the peace talks that are beginning today in Washington.

At the same time, he added, the international community should strengthen the determination of the parties to the Middle East process to engage vigorously for a just, lasting and comprehensive peace in the region based on international law and the two-state solution with the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state.
