President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu meet on Wednesday to continue negotiations in the framework of the UN-led direct talks to find a solution to the Cyprus problem.

The meeting will take place at the official residence of the UNFICYP Chief of Mission in the United Nations Protected Area (UNPA) Lisa M. Buttenheim, in Nicosia at 11am.

Peace talks are resuming after a break due to the participation of the President of the Republic in the 65th session of UN General Assembly, in New York.

After the last meeting, in early September, President Christofias said that ``there was an exchange of views, which led us to decide to authorise our two teams, our aides and the teams, to continue more specifically discussions on various aspects, with an aim to reach some convergences, which they will present to us when we resume in early October``.

The UN Secretary General`s Special Adviser on Cyprus Alexander Downer said after the last meeting that he was satisfied with the results of the all-day meetings held between the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus.

Peace talks began in September 2008 between President Christofias and former Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat. Talks continue now with Eroglu, who succeeded Talat in April this year.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied its northern third.
