[01] CYPRUS ARCHBISHOP - RUSSIAN PRESIDENT - MEETINGThe Archbishop of Cyprus held on Friday a meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Moscow and later on he received the Prize of the International Foundation for the unity of Orthodox Christian Nations, during a ceremony at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, in the Russian capital. Medvedev congratulated Chrysostomos for receiving this important award and noted that the two countries and the two peoples have always been united by the solid base of the common faith.The meeting between the two men took place at the presidential Chapel in Kremlin and lasted for 50 minutes, exceeding the scheduled time. The Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Cyril was also present during the meeting. Cyril also had a separate meeting with the Archbishop earlier. The Head of the Church of Cyprus thanked the Russian President and the Russian people for their support to the Republic of Cyprus and reaffirmed his resolute determination to continue the excellent relationship with the Russian Orthodox Church. Chrysostomos also had the chance to brief the Russian President on the Cyprus issue, as well as inform him on the warm relationship between the Churches of Cyprus and Russia. Cyril, while addressing the meeting, reminded those present of the longstanding brotherly cooperation that binds the two Churches together, even during difficult times in the history of both countries. He noted, moreover, that the present democratic Russia does not forget its close spiritual ties with the holy island of Cyprus. [02] HOUSE PRESIDENT - CHINA - NPC - VISITWu Bangguo, Chairman of the National People`s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee has reaffirmed China`s support towards the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus and towards the initiatives taken by the Greek Cypriot side for a solution to the Cyprus problem based on the UN Security Council`s resolutions and the international law. House President Marios Garoyian and a delegation from the House of Representatives comprised by the Parliamentarians Yiannakis Thoma, Averof Neofytou, Andreas Angelides, Fedias Sarikas and Demetris Syllouris held a meeting on Friday with Bangguo, in the framework of an official visit to China.During the meeting, the prospects of the establishment of a direct flight connection between Cyprus and China, have been discussed. Speaking after the meeting, Garoyian said that they had a very friendly and essential discussion with Bangguo, which covered many issues such as the Cyprus issue, economy, bilateral relations, the relations between the Parliaments of Cyprus and China, and cultural affairs. Garoyian briefed Bangguo on the latest developments in the ongoing direct negotiation process, stressing the lack of progress due to the stance of the Turkish side. He also thanked him for the stance of China on Cyprus issue, which is based on principles, and expressed his gratitude for the support of Chine in the framework of the UN Security Council and other international organisations. ``I also had the opportunity to refer to the initiatives taken by the President of the Republic of Cyprus for the finding of a solution``, Garoyian said.
