    The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus has advised Cypriots to avoid traveling to certain areas of Japan.

    According to a travel advice issued on Wednesday by the Ministry, the citizens of the Republic of Cyprus, who are permanent residents or intend to travel to Japan, are advised to avoid traveling to certain areas of the country.

    It further informs that for any consular information and assistance, interested parties may contact the Crisis Management Centre of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 22801000 or the duty officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 99660129.

    [02] NEPAL CYPRUS SOLUTION

    The President of the Republic of Nepal Dr Ram Baran Yadav has pledged his countrys support to finding a peaceful solution to the Cyprus issue that is based on international law and the relevant UN decisions.

    Yadav expressed the position during an official ceremony on Tuesday at the Presidential Palace in Katmandu where Cyprus High Commissioner to India, Navsika Krousti, presented her credentials as the islands new High Commissioner to Nepal based in New Delhi.

    The High Commissioner outlined bilateral relations and briefed the Nepalese President on the latest developments in the Cyprus issue, underlining the consistent readiness of President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias to find a solution that is based on international and European law the soonest which will rid the country of Turkeys occupation.

    Referring to his countrys position on the Cyprus issue, Yadav expressed his support to finding a solution that is based on international law and the relevant resolutions and UN decisions. He said his country remains a firm supporter of the positions of the Republic of Cyprus and pointed out that his country will make further efforts to strengthen bilateral relations in all fields.

    [03] PRESIDENT OMBUDSWOMAN

    The President of the Republic Demetris Christofias said that the appointment of the new Ombudswoman Eliza Savvides is a significant move towards the consolidation and qualitative improvement of democracy in the country.

    Speaking during a ceremony at the Presidential Palace, at which Savvides officially assumed her duties, in the presence of the President of the House of Representatives and other government officials, President Christofias said that the Office of the Commissioner for Administration, as the office is officially called, has offered all legal guarantees for extra-judicial checks of state acts to the citizens, reinforcing the common sense of justice amongst the members of society.

    Addressing former incumbent Eliana Nicolaou, who was also present at the ceremony, the President thanked her for her important work during the past two six-year terms. He also said he was convinced the new Ombudswoman would honor the confidence the state has entrusted her with, having at her disposal the achievements of the past and the acknowledged ethos, integrity, knowledge and capacity that characterize her.

    In your person, the Cabinet and I see a partner and an ally in fulfilling our declaration to serve the interests of the citizens, the President noted. He added that the government views the role of the Office of the Commissioner for Administration as complementary and not as an institution in confrontation.

    President Christofias added that he himself has given clear instructions for compliance with the recommendations expressed by the Office of the Commissioner for Administration, without delay, where they serve legitimate claims, promote equality of rights and redress an injustice.

    The President of the House of Representatives Marios Garoyan congratulated Savvides on his part, wishing her a creative term, to the benefit of the citizens and the society at large.

    Savvides, taking the floor, said in her brief speech that she was honored by the decision of the President to appoint her to such a crucial and delicate position. She added that she will try to fulfill her duties in an evenhanded, unbiased manner, by abiding to the principle of legitimacy.
