The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advice for the
citizens of the Republic of Cyprus who are permanent residents or
intend to visit the Syrian Arab Republic, to avoid traveling to the
country unless it is necessary.
The travel advice notes that the citizens of the Republic of Cyprus who
are permanent residents or intend to visit Syria are advised to avoid
non essential traveling and follow news reports and developments in the
country.
For any consular information and assistance, it adds, interested
persons may contact the duty officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
on 99660129 or the Embassy of the Republic in Damascus,
[02] CYPRUS TALKS - MEETING
President of the Republic Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot
leader Dervis Eroglu will meet again on Tuesday, August 23, in the
framework of direct talks for a Cyprus solution, following a brief
summer break.
According to a UN press release, the meeting will take place in the
morning, at the Chief of Missions residence in the United Nations
Protected Area of Nicosia.
Speaking after the last all-day meeting, on August 2, UN Secretary
General`s Special Advisor on Cyprus, Alexander Downer said the leaders
spent a fairly long amount of time focusing on the issue of governance
and power-sharing.
Leaders did discuss governance and power-sharing, and they will be
meeting again on Friday (5 August) in a similar format. And well take
up from where weve left off today and focus on governance and
power-sharing, he said.
