[01] PRESIDENT - UN GENERAL ASSEMBLYCyprus President Demetris Christofias during his address to the UN General Assembly tomorrow will refer to the Cyprus problem and the difficulties in the UN-backed talks due to the Turkish stance.A government source told CNA that President Christofias will also refer to the Turkish threats as well as the dangerous policy followed by Ankara with regard Cyprus` natural gas exploration in its Exclusive Economic Zone. Christofias is set to stress the illegal nature of the ``agreement`` signed today between Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu for the delimitation of the continental shelf between Turkey and the occupying regime, as well the illegal declaration of a UDI in 1983. The President`s address to the General Assembly is scheduled for 11:00 local time tomorrow. On November 15, 1983, the Turkish Cypriot regime, in the islands northern Turkish occupied areas, declared a UDI, which the UN has described as legally invalid and called on all states to respect the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and non-alignment of the Republic of Cyprus. The UN Security Council also called on all states not to recognise any Cypriot state other than the Republic of Cyprus. Barring Turkey, no other state recognises the illegal Turkish Cypriot regime. Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. [02] SPOKESMAN ÔURKEY - PSEUDO-STATE AGREEMENTThe Cypriot government deplored Wednesday the delimitation ``agreement`` signed today between Turkey and illegal Turkish Cypriot regime as ``another violation of the international law.````Turkey has committed another violation (of the international law), by signing an agreement with an illegal entity, such as the pseudo-state, which has been condemned by UN resolutions``, Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou said in a statement in New York. ``With this violation Turkey tries to obstruct the Republic of Cyprus from exercising a self-evident right, recognized by the whole of the international community,`` Stephanou added, noting that the international community requests Turkey to respect the international law. [03] UN - BUTTENHEIM - CYPRUS SOLUTIONUN Secretary General`s Special Representative in Cyprus Lisa Buttenheim has stated that United Nations maintain the view that a solution to the Cyprus problem is within reach.Addressing todays observance to mark the 30th anniversary of the International Day of Peace, which took place at Ledra Palace, in Nicosia, Buttenheim said, inter alia, on a global scale, the United Nations has been engaged on several fronts to bring peace and stability to regions in conflict. She stressed that UN peacekeeping missions, and our efforts to support peace, and sustainable development, human rights and democracy, are making a difference for countless individuals and communities. [04] CYPRIOT ECONOMY - IMFThe Cypriot economy will remain at a standstill in 2011, according to the International Monetary Fund`s Global Economic Outlook (WEO).The IMF estimates that Cyprus` real GDP will record zero growth in 2011, whereas in 2012 the Cypriot GDP will grow with a rate of 1%. Regarding the current year`s fourth quarter the IMF estimates that the Cypriot economy will contract by 3.1% year on year compared with a 2.5% GDP growth in Q4 of 2010. According to WEO, the Cypriot economy in Q4 2012 will grow with a 4.2% growth rate compared to Q4 2011. Inflation is expected to reach 4% in 2011 and will decline to 2.4% in 2012.
