[01] Omirou :Cyprus cannot remain the only divided country in EuropeCyprus House of Representatives President Yiannakis Omirou, in a written statement on the occasion of the Greek National Day, says that Cyprus cannot and should not remain the only divided country in Europe.Greeks celebrate on 25th March the 1821 revolution, marking the launch of the Greek struggle for independence from Ottoman rule. Omirou stresses in his statement, that Europe should not tolerate the presence of an occupation army in a state member of the European Union. ``We should insist in the vesting of the rights of the Cypriot people, the withdrawal of Turkish troops and Turkish settlers, the assurance of an effective function of state, the peaceful coexistence with our Turkish Cypriot compatriots, the prosperity and progress of the whole people of Cyprus``, he adds.
