  • [01] No greater priority for Greece than Cyprus, says Greek FM

There is no greater priority for Greece than the Cyprus issue, Greek Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos said, speaking after a meeting here with Cypriot Minister of Defence Photis Photiou, who concluded a visit to Athens.

The security, independence and international legal personality of the Republic of Cyprus is fundamental for Greece, Venizelos said, vowing to protect them "at all costs".

He added that anyone who thinks that Greek national policy has a greater priority than the Cyprus issue and the necessary political solution to the problem is wrong.

[02] KPMG London to deliver Wednesday final asset evaluation of CPB

The final evaluation of Cyprus Popular Bank (CPB) assets is expected to be delivered on Wednesday by KPMG London, according to CNA sources.

The same sources say that the unified study of the new Bank of Cyprus (BoC) will be delivered by Friday and will contain the evaluation of assets, both from CPB and BoC.

[03] Cyprus' Archbishop briefs Russian Patriarch on Cyprus' economy

Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill I of Moscow was briefed on Tuesday on the condition of Cyprus' economy, by the Primate of the Church of Cyprus Chrysostomos II, who is visiting Russia.

The two men discussed a series of issues that concern relations between the two Churches and the Christian Church in general.

Kirill thanked Chrysostomos for his support to Russian entrepreneurs that were hit recently by the crisis in Cyprus, while the Archbishop of Cyprus briefed the Patriarch about the situation in the island, as well as about the work of the Church.

[04] Crisis in Greece and Cyprus may herald better days, Greek President says

Cyprus remains a divided country, 39 years after Turkey's invasion, and is being tested today by another crisis, the economic crisis, President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias notes in a message to mark the 39th anniversary since the restoration of democracy in Greece.

"Cyprus is always in our minds during this anniversary," Papoulias says, pointing out that the economic crisis will by no means affect the defense of national interests.

The Greek President adds that the crisis in Cyprus, just as in Greece, may become the starting point for a better future, honoring thus the memory of the people who fought for this purpose.

[05] Cyprus introduces amendments on entry of third country nationals

Changes introduced by an EU Regulation in passport control concern exclusively third country nationals, not EU nationals or Cypriot citizens, an official announcement clarifies.

The most important amendments of the Regulation provide that third country nationals entering an EU member state must be in possession of a valid travel document, which must be valid for at least three months after the intended date of departure from the territory of the member state.

The valid travel document must have been issued within the previous 10 years from the date of entry to the member state.
