  • [01] The return of the fenced-off city of Famagusta, a necessity, Defence Minister says

The return of the fenced-off city of Famagusta to its lawful inhabitants is a necessity that will reveal what the talks really need - the willingness of the other side, to live together and build a common future in a united country with a single sovereignty, citizenship and international personality, said Sunday afternoon in London Defence Minister Photis Photiou.

Speaking at an event to mark the centenary of the birth of Archbishop Makarios III, the first President of the Republic of Cyprus, and the anniversary of the Independence of Cyprus, Photiou said that despite the difficulties caused by the economic crisis, we will not relinquish our sovereign rights, nor will we come to an agreement that would endanger the safety of citizens and the viability of the solution.

[02] House President: A clear and unambiguous basis absolutely necessary for resuming of talks

A clear and unambiguous basis is absolutely necessary for the launch of any negotiations on Cyprus problem, said Sunday President of the House of Representative Yiannakis Omirou in his address at the 33rd anti-occupation march of the Turkish-occupied municipality of Morphou.

Omirou added that starting talks without this condition and without bridging the gaps on the key aspects of the Cyprus problem will be a repeat of the deadlock and the fruitless path followed for 39 years.

He added that the solution must also take into account the joint statement of the National Council of September 2009, for a solution that will ensure the physical and national survival of the Greek Cypriots and will safeguard the continuity of the Cypriot state.

[03] Cyprus Labour Minister to take part in EPSCO meeting in Luxembourg

Labour and Social Insurance Minister Zeta Emilianidou, will take part in a Meeting of the Council for Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs (EPSCO) that will take place Tuesday in Luxembourg.

An official statement said the main issue on the agenda is the Proposal for a directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on the enforcement of directive 96/71/EC concerning the posting of workers in the framework of the provision of services. It will also deal with Youth employment and there will be an evaluation of the 2013 European Semester in employment and social policies.
