announced Government declaration [01] Measures to prevent sales of properties in occupied areas to be announcedInterior Minister Socrates Hasikos has said that the Government will soon announce a series of measures and actions in order to prevent the selling of Greek Cypriot owned properties in the Turkish-occupied areas of Cyprus.Speaking at a memorial event organised by the occupied town of Trachonas, the Minister called on all refugees not to sell their properties in the occupied areas via the "Immovable Property Commission" (IPC) set up in the occupied Cyprus. He went on to say that the mass sale of Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied areas, weakens our side's negotiating position for finding a just and viable solution to the Cyprus problem, noting that with such actions we cancel out our strongest card in the negotiations, thus the property issue. [02] Joint declaration to include basic principles of solution, says GovernmentThe efforts to reach an agreement on a joint declaration will continue and the Greek Cypriot side hopes that there will be an agreement that will include the basic principles of the Cyprus solution as they are stated in the UN resolutions, Government has reiterated.In a written statement, Government Spokesman Christos Stylianides pointed out that these principles are the basic prerequisite for substantive negotiations with prospect, adding that we do not wish to enter the negotiations for the sake of negotiations. The Spokesman also stated that the G/c side will continue to attend the consultations to reach a joint declaration in good faith and in a constructive manner, aiming for an agreement that will pave the way for a meeting between the leaders of the two communities and the beginning of a substantive and effective dialogue to solve the Cyprus problem. [03] President Anastasiades to attend EU meeting in ParisPresident Nicos Anastasiades will attend an EU conference on youth employment, to be held in Paris, on Tuesday, November 12. The conference was summoned by French President Francois Hollande.According to an official announcement, the President will address the issue, noting his government's efforts in tackling youth unemployment as a top priority. The Cypriot President will refer, inter alia, to government preparations for the timely implementation of a "Council recommendation on establishing a Youth Guarantee" and of the European Commission's action plan by December 2013. [04] UN: There has been good progress on the preparation of a joint declarationThere has been a lot of hard work and good progress on the preparation of a joint declaration, the Spokesperson of the Secretary-General`s Good Offices Mission in Cyprus says in a written statement.According to the Spokesperson, there is still some work to do, "but we are cautiously optimistic that the declaration can be agreed in the days ahead". The statement also says that the Secretary-General's Special Advisor on Cyprus (SASG), Alexander DoUwner is leaving Cyprus tonight after a 24-hour extension of his current visit to the island.
