[01] Government determined to lead local administration to a viable future
Minister of Interior Socrates Hasicos has said the government is
determined to find effective solutions to the problems faced by local
administration.
In a written statement, on Saturday, Hasicos notes that the government
has entered into consultations with all local administration bodies
and political parties with a view to finding "effective and feasible
solutions for the future of this democratic institution".
The government is determined to follow a path which will lead local
administration to fulfill its obligations to citizens, without being a
burden to public finances, he pointed out.
[02] The EU Court of Justice plays pivotal role, says Cypriot judge
The Court of Justice of the European Union plays a pivotal role in
administering justice, Cypriot judge to the Court George Arestis has
said, pointing out that the Court itself has the authority to impose
the execution of its own judgments, something that distinguishes it from
other international courts.
Speaking at the European University on "The Court of the EU after
the Lisbon Treaty: Organisation and Competencies", Arestis said that
Cyprus, since it joined the EU 2004, was brought before the Court on
nine difference cases relating to non application of EU law.
The Court found Cyprus guilty on three of these cases and one application
has been rejected. The remaining five were withdrawn because Cyprus
complied with its obligations.
