[01] Vice-President of EU Commission rules out PSI for CyprusThe European Commission is not working on any private sector involvement option for Cyprus, Vice-President of the European Commission and member of the Commission responsible for Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Euro, Olli Rehn, has said.Replying to a question, Vice-President Rehn stressed that it's the Commission's firm position that Greece was a unique case. He reiterated that the aim is to ensure fair burden-sharing of the cost of restructuring of Cypriot banks, in accordance with European rules on state aid. [02] President: Cyprus and Greece suffer under neo-colonial policiesPresident of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias held a meeting Tuesday in Athens with his Greek counterpart Karolos Papoulias, during which he thanked him for his firm support as regards the Cyprus problem."The struggle continues. We will keep in contact, hoping that one day Cyprus and Greece will be vindicated", President Christofias said after the meeting. Furthermore he said that "Greece and the Greek people may not suffer under any occupation, but they suffer under the neo-colonial policies, including the ones of the EU", adding that he expressed this view already during the recent meeting he held with the Presidents of the European Council, the Commission and the European Parliament, Herman van Rompuy and Joze Barroso and Martin Schulz. [03] FM presents book on Cyprus - EU member states relationsMinister of Foreign Affairs Erato Kazakou - Marcoullis presented Tuesday in Nicosia a book entitled «Linked by History - United by Choice. Cyprus and its European Union Partners» in the framework of the "Eurodaktylios" Cultural Cooperation Program between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the University of Cyprus.Presenting the book during a special ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Markoullis said that the book "is an epitome and comprehensive outline of the relations of Cyprus with all member states of the European Union". The Foreign Minister underlined that the book "has been widely distributed during the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU and was presented by President of the Republic, Demetris Christofias, to his European counterparts, as well as by all Cypriot Ministers to their European colleagues". [04] Trade deficit down by €580 million in 2012Cyprus' trade deficit fell to €4.32 billion euro between January and December 2012, compared to €4.90 billion in the corresponding period of 2011.Cyprus' imports in 2012 stood at 5.75 billion euro, while exports were at 1.43 billion, a preliminary estimate published by the Cyprus Statistical Service shows. Total imports / arrivals reached €425.8 million in December, of which €317.7 million were arrivals from other EU member states, and €108.1 million imports from third countries.
