According to an official announcement, President Anastasiades will also take part at the EPP Summit, which will take place prior to the European Council. He will also attend the Euro Summit meeting.

While in Brussels, the President of the Republic of Cyprus will meet separately with European Council President Herman van Rompuy, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and European Parliament President Martin Schulz.

[02] Government to extend support to Cyprus shipping industry

The merchant shipping industry is a promising sector of the Cyprus economy, which the government aims to support further, Minister of Communications and Works Tasos Mitsopoulos has said.

Speaking in the southern coastal city of Limassol, where he visited the headquarters of the Department of Merchant Shipping, Mitsopoulos said government support would take the form of additional tax and other incentives.

"The Cyprus flag flying on our merchant ships is the best Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus abroad" the Minister noted, in statements after the visit. He added that the Cyprus flag is listed among the most reliable flags in the world and the Cypriot fleet is a trusted and credible one.

[03] Central Bank began process to select auditing firm

The Central Bank of Cyprus began on Wednesday the process for the selection of an independent auditing firm, which will carry out an independent evaluation of the implementation of the anti-money laundering legal framework in Cypriot financial institutions.

Reliable sources told CNA that the troika and Cyprus Finance Ministry reached an agreement on the mandate of the auditing firm, which must conclude the evaluation in March, as the Eurogroup decided on March 4.

In its statement, the Eurogroup had called on the international institutions and Cyprus to accelerate their work on the building blocks of a programme, and agreed to target political endorsement of the programme around the second half of March.

[04] Government works non-stop to conclude bailout negotiations

The government is working non-stop in order to successfully conclude negotiations for a rescue package, Government Spokesman Christos Stylianides said, ahead of a European Council and a Eurozone leaders Summit.

In a written statement issued here, on Wednesday, Stylianides stresses that the government will not negotiate publically and will inform citizens as soon as there are new developments.

"The situation is difficult but there is no reason for panic", the Cypriot Spokesman says, reiterating the government's assurance that a bank deposits ‘haircut' or further cuts in payroll and pensions are not up for discussion.

[05] Anastasiades presents Commissioners with acts of appointment

Commissioner for Cypriots living abroad and other religious groups Kaiti Clerides and Commissioner of Environment Ioanna Panayiotou were presented with their appointment acts by President Nicos Anastasiades at a ceremony which took place at the Presidential Palace Wednesday.

The President expressed his confidence that with their experience and zeal both Commissioners will do their utmost and will work hard to promote the governmental policies on issues related to their positions.

Referring to Kati Clerides, the President said that she will be responsible for the overseas Cypriots, the repatriated and the religious groups and will work for promoting contacts with the Turkish Cypriots.
