  • [01] German Ambassador: Cyprus will overcome difficult circumstances

Cyprus will emerge speedily from the difficult circumstances it is facing today and its banking sector will recover on a new scale, German Ambassador to Nicosia Gabriela Guellil said on Friday.

In statements to CNA, she noted that there is a rising awareness that Cyprus has to face social hardship of an unprecedented scope. "We welcome that measures are designed to counter negative effects that are - unfortunately - unavoidable in the short term", she pointed out.

Guellil, who was received Friday by President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades, told CNA that the necessary reforms aim at bringing Cyprus back on track amidst a financial crisis across Europe. "Cyprus needs access to the international markets. To this end, the implementation of the programme is vital", she said.
