[01] French FM visit in Nicosia to focus on Cyprus problem, energy matters and bilateral relations

The international aspect of the Cyprus problem, the issue of security and guarantees and the role the UN Security Council could play in the ongoing UN brokered peace talks in Cyrpus are expected to be discussed during the meetings the French Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Marc Ayrault will have on Tuesday in Nicosia.

Ayrault who arrives in Nicosia this afternoon, will also be received by Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades.

According to CNA sources, the French Minister will also discuss with his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides bilateral relations, issues relating to the EU, security concerns and energy matters.

[02] Cypriot MP addresses IPU Committee meeting

Head of the Cypriot delegation at the 135th Inter-parliamentary Union, MP Averof Neofytou participated on Monday in a meeting of the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security about the role of the parliaments to the prevention of external interventions to the domestic affairs of sovereign states.

According to an official press release, Neofytou noted that the Cyprus House fully supports the adoption of a relevant resolution during the next Conference of the Inter-perliamentary Union. Furthermore, he noted that by strengthening the national parliaments` legislative work and their role to exercise control of the executive authority, parliamentary bodies have the potential to promote the implementation of international commitments undertaken by the governments of their countries, as regards the non-intervention principle.
