The National Council was briefed yesterday by President Clerides and Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem. [02] US State Department Spokesman on missing personsUS State Department Spokesman James Rubin, commenting on a reference made by President Bill Clinton, that Greek and Turkish Cypriot persons were missing as a "result of intercommunal violence", stated that it was all an editing error.President Clinton had made this reference in a transmittal letter last month accompanying his bimonthly report to Congress on the progress of a negotiated settlement in Cyprus. The State Department Spokesman took the opportunity to clarify the misunderstanding during his regular briefing last Monday (8.6.98). "Of course we believe that while people on both sides were missing as a result of intercommunal violence, it is equally true, as the report clearly states on page three, that people were missing as a result of intercommunal violence during the 1960s and the 1974 conflict. So, there was an editing error in terms of making sure that the transmittal letter had all the information and conclusions in it that the report itself did have", he said. [03] CTO in London awarded top marks for efficiencyThe Cyprus Tourism Office in London has been awarded, top marks in an efficiency survey carried out by "Which? Holiday" magazine.According to the magazine's report, a total of 23 tourism offices were graded in several categories including speed of response to brochure requests, usefulness of information, quality of service both in person and on the telephone. The Cyprus Tourist Office performed well in all categories.
