[01] French spokesperson hopes Cyprus division is sorted out
The spokesperson of the French Foreign Ministry has said that France is in
total accord with the EU's decision to start entry negotiations with Cyprus
as from 10 November.
Replying to a question on France's attitude to Cyprus, the spokesman added
that in any case, it was under the French EU presidency in 1995 that the
possibility of Cyprus joining was consolidated.
The spokesperson furthermore expressed the wish that Cyprus' entry process
may benefit the whole of the population of Cyprus, that is to say that the
division of the island be sorted out.
[02] New Greek-American Coalition formed
A new Greek-American coalition was founded in the US, aiming to lobby
Congress on issues of concern to Greece and Cyprus.
The "Greek - American Coalition of New England", founded by State Senator,
Leonidas Raptakis, will hold its first inaugural meeting on December 2 in
Boston.
Mr Raptakis said he decided to launch the organisation after speaking with
former Massachusetts Governor and Presidential candidate, Mike Dukakis, as
well as Connecticut State Representative, Demetrios Giannaros and New
Hampshire State Representative, William Tsiros.
"By bringing this group of government officials together, we can take
advantage of their contacts with their state's congressional delegation to
speak with a strong voice on a range of issues affecting Greece and Cyprus,
" Raptakis said.
