[01] UN to restore two important cultural sites in Cyprus
The United Nations has announced plans to restore two significant cultural
sites in Cyprus, the Greek Orthodox Monastery of Apostolos Andreas, in the
Turkish-occupied areas, and the Moslem mosque of Hala Sultan in the free
areas of the Republic.
The UN Secretary-General's Spokesman announced yesterday that the first
phase of the project will be undertaken by the United Nations Development
Programme in partnership with the United States.
"I consider this a very constructive step forward, one well suited to the
spirit of the New Year", the Spokesman said.
The project's implementation will be entrusted to the UN Office for Project
Services.
