[01] President Clerides resumes duties

The President of the Republic Mr Glafcos Clerides resumes his duties tomorrow 9 May, according to an official announcement.

[02] Parliamentarians express concern for the continuing occupation of part of Cyprus

The members of the British Isles and the Mediterranean region of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association adopted a resolution on Cyprus on 4 May, stressing their concern over the situation created by the 1974 Turkish invasion and occupation of the northern part of the island.

The resolution, which was unanimously adopted, was submitted by the Jersey delegation, during the 31st British Islands and Mediterranean Regional Conference held on the Isle of Man, between 1 - 6 May.

Representatives from the Parliaments of Britain, the Isle of Man, Malta, Gibraltar, Jersey, Guernsey, the Falkland Islands, Scotland, Wales and Cyprus participated in the Conference.

In the resolution, the delegates express their concern for "the violation of democratic principles from the continuing illegal occupation of part of Cyprus by Turkish military forces".

Many MPs expressed their support for Cyprus and committed themselves to pass on the resolution to the governments of their respective countries.
