Hannay: "There is a historic opportunity today to settle the Cyprus question"Britain/s Special Envoy for Cyprus Sir David Hannay has said that there is a historic opportunity today to settle the Cyprus question and added that all core issues should be addressed in the new effort to reach a Cyprus settlement.
Mr. Hannay who was speaking to the press, after a meeting with Greek Foreign Minister Mr. George Papandreou, expressed his belief that proximity talks on Cyprus "should change gear and should move onto issues of substance", adding that we should "really identify where there can be common ground".
"I think we are all of us conscious of the fact that there is a historic opportunity here, not just for Cyprus but more widely in this region", he said. "And those of us who are friends of both Greece and Turkey want to do what we can to help that process, without interfering in any way beyond what is proper to do, so we have a delicate balance to achieve", he concluded.
