[01] Greece makes demarches to the Permanent Members of UN Security Council
over Strovilia
Greek Foreign Minister Mr. George Papandreou said yesterday that the Greek
government has informed all the EU member states on the situation created
in the village of Strovilia by the recent forward movement of the Turkish
troops. He added that he will raise the issue at the EU Council of
Ministers for Foreign Affairs which will be held next Monday in Brussels.
Mr. Papandreou also said that Greece has made demarches to the five
Permanent Members of the Security Council over the issue and believes that
the UN bears a considerable responsibility in settling the issue.
[02] New Cyprus Ambassador accredited to Armenia
The Cyprus Ambassador to Moscow Mr. Charalambos Ioannides was also
accredited to the Republic of Armenia this week.
Presenting his credentials to Armenian President Mr. Robert Kochakyan, Mr.
Ioannides expressed on behalf of President Clerides and the people of
Cyprus his deep esteem for Armenian support to a just solution to the
Cyprus problem.
[03] Adjournment of Cyprus proximity talks
Proximity talks underway in Geneva will adjourn on 2 July and resume on 24
July it was announced by the UN,in Geneva today.
The announcement was made at a UN briefing by UN spokesperson in Geneva
Marie Hoze.
"The Cyprus proximity talks underway in Geneva under the Secretary-
General's auspices will adjourn on 12 July and resume on 24 July. They will
continue until early August and resume in New York on 12 September until
early October," the announcement said.
