COE Committee of Ministers examine Loizidou case against TurkeyThe Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, during yesterday's session on human rights, continued the examination of the case of Titina Loizidou vs. Turkey regarding Turkey's non-compliance with the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
During the session, Turkey restated its positions and set preconditions, which the Committee continued to find unacceptable.
Turkey's representative articulated his country's wish to postpone the examination of the case for six months in order to continue its efforts.
The Cypriot, as well as the Greek representations refuted the Turkish argument and insisted on Turkey's compliance with ECHR's decision the soonest possible.
The Committee rejected the Turkish request for a six-month postponement and decided to continue the examination of the case next October. Additionally, the Committee asked of the Turkish representative to give information, during the next meeting, regarding the efforts of Turkey.
