[01] Denktash calls again for negotiations for a bizonal settlement

According to illegal Bayrak radio (10:30 hours, 1.5.96), Rauf Denktash has called on the Greek Cypriot side to come to the negotiating table for a bizonal agreement.

Denktash was speaking to illegal TAK (Turkish Cypriot News Agency) about the remarks made by President Glafcos Clerides on Turkey's Cyprus policy. Denktash claimed that President Clerides always interprets the things said to him by foreign officials the way he wants.

He alleged that "Turkey was so pro-peace as to sacrifice its sons in order to prevent Enosis on the island."

He claimed that the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo, as he called it, continues to deceive the world by means of their attitude and policies that run counter to international agreements, to the principle of the supremacy of law, and to humanitarian values.

"As one of the owners of Cyprus, do not undermine Turkey's guarantorship, come to the negotiating table, and let us sign a bizonal agreement. Let us discuss how we can set up good neighbourly relations," he stated.

[02] Bomb explosion at the RTP headquarters

According to illegal Bayrak radio (13:30, 2.5.96) at 00.45 a.m. early today a bomb exploded at the RTP's (Republican Turkish Party) headquarters in occupied Nicosia, causing only damages.

Mehmet Ali Talat, leader of the RTP and "deputy Prime Minister" visited the place and condemned the attack. He said this is not the fist time the party headquarters are being attacked and that the party was recently receiving various threats.

Meanwhile, early this morning there were a number of bomb explosions in a night club at Geunyeli and the "police" is investigating whether the two incidents are connected. (A.TH.EF)
