According to illegal Bayrak radio (5:00 hours, 26.9.96), Turkish Foreign Minister and deputy Prime Minister Tansu Ciller held contacts in New York. She met with Hans van den Broek, the EU Commissioner for external relations, and Dick Spring, term chairman of the EU. According to illegal Bayrak, during the meetings "Ciller raised the provocative policy being pursued by Greece toward Turkey." She claimed that the latest provocations in Cyprus were started by Greece and the Greek Cypriot side. She also "explained" in political and legal terms why the Cyprus government cannot become a full member of the EU on its own. Ciller also spoke of the "injustice" of the latest European Parliament resolution regarding Turkey. She alleged that the EU is not fulfilling its obligations toward Turkey and indicated that "the fault lies entirely with the EU."
