[01] Russian Foreign Ministry criticizes visit of Duma members to the occupied area

According to KIBRIS (7.5.97) Russia's Foreign Ministry has criticized the visit of a group of Russia's Lower House (Duma) members to the occupied area.

Russia's Foreign Ministry spokesman Valeri Nesterushkin during a press conference yesterday, when asked to comment on the issue answered: "This visit is contrary to Russia's international undertakings".

He added that all the institutions of the Russian Federation should act in accordance with the international undertakings of Russia. He said that the deputies in question went to the occupied area without the approval of the Duma's leadership. Nesterushkin declared: "We believe that it was a private visit and what they have said represents their own views and is binding for them only".

Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokesman also said that the UN Secretary-General will be visiting Moscow next week and during his visit the Cyprus problem will be discussed as well. (MY)

[02] Pseudostate participation in tourist fairs

KIBRIS (7.5.97) reports that, in order to promote the occupied area's tourism potential, the so-called state under-secretary responsible for tourism, Yalcin Vehit, left for Dubai to attend the "Arabian Travel Market".

KIBRIS reports that the occupied area is also taking part at the "Voyager- 97" International Holiday and Amusement Fair in Istanbul. The Fair will be open between 8-11 May. (MY) EF/SK
