Ecevit on "beneficial" Holbrooke visitAccording to TRT Television network (10:00 hours, 6.5.98) Bulent Ecevit Turkish deputy prime minister and Democratic Left Party leader, believes that the recent contacts conducted by Richard Holbrooke, US special envoy to Cyprus, yielded considerably positive and beneficial results despite the reactions in the public. Addressing his party's parliamentary group meeting yesterday, Ecevit claimed that a "state" whose existence and reality can no longer be ignored, namely the "TRNC", has taken roots in the occupied area of Cyprus. Ecevit also noted that Holbrooke objectively conveyed the stand of the Turkish side as well as certain other facts to the world public opinion without taking sides.
"Even though it was not pronounced openly and it was delivered indirectly, Mr. Holbrooke's emphasis shows that the existence of a separate state in northern Cyprus can no longer be ignored. Although the TRNC has not yet been recognized in the diplomatic sense by any state other than Turkey, a state whose existence and reality cannot be ignored has taken roots in northern Cyprus. Increasingly, the whole world will be forced to accept this fact," Ecevit claimed.
Turkey said to also supply occupied area with electricityAccording to HALKIN SESI (6.5.98) the contents of the letter sent by Turkish President Suleyman Demirel to the Turkish Cypriot Farmers' Union have been revealed.

Commenting on the letter, Alican Kabakci, chairman of the Farmers' Union in the occupied area, said that following the news about the water, the good news about the electricity was a surprise and appreciation has been expressed in the name of the pseudostate.
