[A] NEWS ITEMS[01] Turkish Cypriots protest Albright statementKIBRIS (6.4.00) reports that the Turkish community in the USA has reacted to Secretary of State Madeleine Albright/s statement, ``I believe all of you who have visited Cyprus have seen that the island is divided by a green belt. You have seen that one of the sides is colourful but the other is in black and white''.The chairman of the Turco-American Association in Washington Tolga Cubukcu and the chairman of Federation of Turco-American Associations in New York, Egemen Bagis, have sent a letter to Albright, expressing their anger. In the letters, they criticize the so-called embargoes imposed on Turkish Cypriots and which are supported by USA. They say the occupied area ``cannot be colourful, due to the situation'', and criticized the stance of USA who has established economic, cultural and sports relations with Taiwan which is not recongized diplomatically but is against the ``TRNC''. [02] Church turned into art galleryAccording to monthly magazine Benim Kibrisim (April 2000), the 15th century church of Panayia tis Potamitissas in the occupied village of Kazafani has been turned into an art gallery.[03] Pyla headman hosts UNFICYP officialsAccording to KIBRIS (6.4.00) the Turkish Cypriot headman of the mixed Pyla village gave a dinner yesterday in honour of UN Secretary General/s deputy special representative for Cyprus, James Holger.The UNFICYP commanders of the Famagusta area, the British Bases Commander and US Embassy/s officials were also invited at the dinner. [04] ``TRNC'' at international literature panelAccording to KIBRIS (6.4.00) the third International Literature and Poem Panel, Cyprus, Balkans, Eurasia, Turkey, will be held at Canakkale, in Turkey, between 7-10 of April.Thirteen countries will participate in the panel, among them: Turkey, ``TRNC'', Hungary, Azerbaidjan, Bulgaria, Australia, Romania, Kirgizistan, the Netherlands, Turkmenistan, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina. The ``TRNC/s'' delegation, which will be headed by the so-called national education and culture minister, Mehmet Bayram, will fly to Istanbul today. They will return on 10 April. Turkish President Suleyman Demirel will address a conference entitled ``Cyprus problem and the latest developments'' that will be held on 10 April within the framework of the literature panel.
