[01] Eroglu Views Turkey's Action Plan on 'TRNC' as Natural

Anatolia Agency (14:15, hours, 4.1.01) reports that so-called prime minister Dervis Eroglu said on Thursday that the Turkish government`s expressing its opinions about the future of the ``TRNC'' was very natural.

Eroglu told reporters that they considered Turkey`s action plan about the ``TRNC'' positive.

``Measures which should be taken regarding the TRNC`s economy and opinions about the future of the TRNC have been put forward in this action plan. The Turkish government`s expressing its opinions about the future of the TRNC is very natural. Because, we are acting together. We are trying to overcome currently existing problems together, and now, we absolutely require source to implement the stability programme, and we obtain this source from Turkey. With this respect, we are pleased with the Turkish government`s assessment in the Cyprus issue,`` he said.

[02] Talat Says Turkey's Action Plan To Destroy Turkish Cypriots

According to illegal Bayrak Radio 1 (11:30 hours, 4.1.01), Republican Turkish Party [CTP] leader Mehmet Ali Talat has stated that the action plan, which was adopted by the Turkish Council of Ministers and which is expected to be endorsed during the ``Partnership Council'' meeting, will not solve the problems of the Turkish Cypriots, but will, on the contrary, cause their destruction.

Talat held a news conference and assessed the latest political developments and the various domestic issues. Pointing out that this action plan explains the goals of implementations such as the economic package, Talat said that this action plan will eliminate the obstacles to the accession of the Greek Cypriot side to the EU. Noting that the idea of expanding the integration between Turkey and the pseudostate in the aftermath of the decision made by Rauf Denktas to withdraw from the proximity talks has opened the EU path to the Cyprus Government, Talat said that Turkey is, on one hand, trying to contribute to the solution of the Cyprus problem through the Accession Partnership Document and, on the other, is undertaking moves in the opposite direction. Noting that these moves will adversely affect Turkey's EU accession process, Talat warned that the policies being pursued might take the Turkish Cypriots back to the conditions existing prior to 1974. He said that the TCP will not send its representative at the ``Partnership Council'' to the Council meeting in a bid to protest the action plan.

[03] Cosar Expresses 'Enthusiasm' for Turkey's Action Plan

Illegal Bayrak Radio 1 (16:30 hour, 4.1.01) reports that Democratic Party [DP] leader Salih Cosar has expressed enthusiasm for the action plan adopted by the Turkish Council of Ministers with the aim of strengthening the political, socio-economic, and cultural structure of the pseudostate.

Cosar said that implementing full integration in financial and economic fields and partial integration in security, defense, and foreign policy fields will not only ensure the security and sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriots but will, at the same time, enhance Turkey's security and regional interests. He noted that partial integration will solve all the economic and financial problems of the ``TRNC'', adding that in this manner the ``embargoes'' can be overcome.

Stressing that Republican Turkish Party leader Mehmet Ali Talat was wrong in saying that the action plan will drag the Turkish Cypriots into a process of destruction, Cosar said that he cannot understand why Talat, who sees no drawbacks in the union of the Turkish Cypriots with the EU, thinks that partial integration with Turkey will be detrimental.

[04] Turk-Sen Raps Action Plan, Stresses Free Will of Turkish Cypriots

Illegal Bayrak Radio (11:30 hours, 4.1.01) reports that Turk-Sen [Turkish Cypriot Federation of Labor Unions] leader Onder Konuloglu has stated that the Turkish Cypriots will determine their future through their own free will. In a statement he issued, Konuloglu criticized the recent statements made by Turkish Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit and various Turkish press reports on the action plan concerning the pseudostate. Noting that the Turkish Cypriots have the capability and maturity to overcome their problems, Konuloglu expressed the view that the Turkish Cypriots should be left in peace.

[05] Turkish officials oppose participation of pseudostate teams in Turkey

SABAH (4.1.01 under the headlines ``Cyprus dispute'' reports that the Turkish leagues/ door is opened to sports clubs and athletes from the occupied area but authorities say that the result of this action will be negative for both sides.

According to the article, if the decision of the Turkish Council of Ministers comes into effect then they will be facing serious problems at the international platform. In the past, the federations that played national games with ``TRNC'' teams used to get punished by the international federations. Turkish team G. Birligi was punished by FIFA because they played a game in the occupied areas.

A Turkish sports official said ``This Action Plan could be the end of Turkish sports''.
