[01] Denktas meets with Turkish settlers living in occupied Karpass; The settlers said they would protect the pseudostate with their life

Mr Denktas called on the settlers to vote for the parties, which follow the so-called nationalist line and "not to show interest for those who follow the Greek Cypriots, opposing the state" in the December "elections".

Talking during the meeting the settler so-called mukhtar of occupied Rizokarpasso village, Emin Gungor said that they support a settlement to the Cyprus problem without giving concessions from their "sovereignty" and territory. Mr Gungor said they would do whatever it takes to protect the pseudostate and if necessary they would become a living shield to protect it with their life. "We shall not surrender our state to those who wait at the doors of the officials from Greece going to south Cyprus and play with our honour", argued Mr Gungor.

[02] Ozgur: "The shadow of the army is on the 'elections'"

In an exclusive interview to AFRIKA Mr Ozgur argued that the Turkish government does not seem to have closed the door for reaching a solution in Cyprus. "Even if they are not bold enough against the army, they are giving the impression that they are not against the solution", he added.

Asked why he had given a positive vote to the illegal declaration of the pseudostate in 1983 when he was in RTP, Mr Ozgur said that Mr Denktas had threatened them that if they gave a negative vote he would ban their party. "If I had then the views I have today I would have told him to close the party if he wanted", noted Mr Ozgur.

[03] The occupation regime arrested peace marchers

The protest, which was organized in the framework of the bi-communal activities of the "30 of September Cyprus Peace Day Group", took place yesterday at Ledra Palace checkpoint. The members of the Group, protesting against the limitations of free movement in the island and the showing of passports by the Greek Cypriots, brought a donkey at the Ledra Palace checkpoint and crossed over from the free areas to the occupied part of Cyprus with the animal.

Following this they presented symbolically to the "pseudo police" a donkey's passport, an action that caused the reaction of the occupation regime which put under arrest two Greek Cypriots and one Turkish Cypriot, accusing them of "inappropriate behavior and actions against the state". The persons who were arrested are Savvas Christodoulou, 73 years old, the owner of the donkey, Andis Kyriakides, 55 years old and Salih Taskin, 43 years old. The paper also writes that the donkey is held by the police. The three persons will be brought in front of a so-called court today.

According to the paper these targets are: 1) to start accession talks with the European Union, 2) to send stabilization forces to Iraq and this decision to have a successful conclusion and 3) the solution of the Cyprus problem along with protecting the rights of the two communities in Cyprus.
