    [01] Statements by Rauf Denktas after meeting a British Parliamentary Committee

    Ankara Anatolia news agency (10.11.04) reported from occupied Nicosia that the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr Rauf Denktas, met members of the British Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee headed by John Maples on Wednesday.

    The delegation arrived in Cyprus to prepare a comprehensive report about the Cyprus policy of Britain.

    Denktas told reporters: ''We informed the MPs about the recent stage on the Cyprus issue and replied to their questions.''

    ''I am pleased with the visit of the British MPs,'' he added.

    Upon a question whether they discussed the opening of occupied Tymbou Airport to international flights and the occupied ports to international voyages, Denktas said: ''We have discussed this issue. The British MPs said they understand the right demands of the Turkish Cypriots about this issue.''

    ''They have listened and they will report this issue to their government,'' Denktas added.

    Reporting on the meeting local KIBRIS newspaper (11.11.04) wrote that Mr Denktas handed the British members of Parliament a document with "talking points" regarding his positions on the Cyprus problem.

    Local VOLKAN newspaper (11.11.04) publishes further statements by Rauf Denktas. Mr Denktas is quoted to have said in a television programe that the "law" prepared by the occupation regimeīs government, which provides for the leasing and not the sale of properties to foreigners, should be withdrawn.

    [02] Turkey's Ministry of Public Works and Housing will invite tenders for the construction of a Kyrenia diversion road

    Turkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (11.11.04) reports that the General Directorate of Highways at Turkey's Ministry of Public Works and Housing is asking for tenders for the construction of a diversion road to by-pass the occupied town of Kyrenia.

    The official gazette of Turkey published yesterday the announcement of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing. It is also reported in the announcement that the interested companies must complete the work in 670 days starting from the day they take the contract.

    The Ministry will decide about the contract on 24 December this year.

    [03] The occupation regime is getting ready for direct flights to the illegal Tymbou airport; American, British and French demands for direct flights to the occupied area of Cyprus

    Turkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (11.11.04) reports that the occupation regime is getting ready for direct flights to the illegal Tymbou airport. As reported, a team of experts from Turkey and the so-called Civil Aviation Department of the occupation regime have started to work intensively to this end.

    According to the paper, the runway of the illegal airport will be extended and security measures inside and outside the building will be taken.

    KIBRIS writes that the director of the so-called Civil Aviation Department, Mahmut Nihad said that demands for flights towards the illegal Tymbou airport have been submitted from the United States, Britain and France.

    [04] American businessmen are getting ready to invest in occupied Karpass peninsula

    Turkish Cypriot daily KIBRISLI newspaper (11.11.04) refers to the Cessna-Citation X type small private plane that landed on 2nd November at the illegal Tymbou airport and writes that the plane brought American businessmen to the occupied areas of Cyprus.

    The businessmen and the Turkish businessman Ali Sen had lunch with Mehmet Ali Talat and Serdar Denktas, so-called prime minister and deputy prime minister of the occupation regime, and agreed with them on making investments in the occupied part of Cyprus.

    The paper writes that the Americans will invest 25 million dollars, at the first stage, in the field of tourism in the occupied Karpass peninsula.

    Meanwhile, Turkish Cypriot daily AFRIKA newspaper (11.11.04) reports that the plane that took off from the Greek island of Rhodes had been leased from Lloyds Business Jet company.

    [05] The Republican Turkish Party is charting new programme

    According to Turkish Cypriot daily YENIDUZEN newspaper (11.11.04), the Republican Turkish Party-United Forces, (RTP) has started work to chart a new policy which will be compatible with the existing new conditions.

    According to the RTP general secretary Ferdi Sabit Soyer the draft "New Era, New Conditions, Opportunities and Threats. New Political thesis in European and solution Openings" will be debated at party level, then in the public and press and among the civilian organizations. After that the final form of the "Political Thesis" will be drawn at the RTPīs Party Assembly and it will be submitted to the RTPīs 19th General Congress to be held in the occupied area on 27 November for approval.

    Soyer said that the aim of the New Political Thesis is "to make the Turkish Cypriot community politically equal partner to that of the Greek Cypriots in Cyprus. On this basis as European and world people, to make our people direct side in all international political, economic relations, on the political, economic, democratic and cultural grounds".

    [06] The pseudostate to be advertised as a tourist destination on British buses and television

    Turkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (11.11.04) reports that the so-called Minister of Economy and Tourism of the occupation regime, Mr Dervis Kemal Deniz, stated that occupied Cyprus will be advertised as a tourist destination on the British buses and on British television. Mr Deniz made these statements in London, UK, in the framework of his visit to the ExCEL Tourist Fair, in which the pseudostate is one of the participants.

    Speaking to KIBRIS newspaper Mr Deniz stated that the interest as regards north Cyprus has increased lately and added that the number of tourists who visited the pseudostate has increased by up to 26%, compared to last year's number. He said that they have a bed capacity of 11,700 now in the pseudostate and they aim to increase this number to 16,000 until June 2005, by intensifying the advertising campaign. "Advertisings of north Cyprus will be placed in buses in England. We are also preparing a presentation film about north Cyprus, which is prepared by a firm in Turkey that makes promotion films, and these films will be shown in the English Television", he said.

    Furthermore, the so-called permanent undersecretary of the pseudo-ministry of Economy and Tourism of the occupation regime Mr Yalcin Vehit stated that the British market showed a great interest in the pseudostate and added that the 80% of the persons who visit occupied Cyprus come from England. He stated that 92,000 British persons visited occupied Cyprus in the year 2003 and added that 94,000 persons have visited occupied Cyprus in the first nine months of the year 2004. He added that in order for 150,000 British persons to visit occupied Cyprus next year, the pseudostate will participate "in an influential way" in other tourist fairs that will take place in seven towns of the UK.

    In addition, the Turkish Minister of Tourism Mr Erkan Mumcu who also visited the ExCEL Tourist Fair in London, where Turkey is one of the participants, visited the pseudo state's pavilion in the fair and stated that the increase of foreign investors in occupied Cyprus must become a priority. He said that along with Turkish investors, famous investors, from big market countries like Germany and England must be attracted in order to invest in occupied Cyprus.
