Under the title One more new party of Turkey, Turkish Cypriot daily AFRIKA newspaper (15.09.06) reports that Mr Serdar Denktas, chairman of the Democratic Party (DP) has said that efforts are exerted again for the establishment of a political party dependent on the place of birth of our people and added that this party is presented as a party which will save those from Turkey from being unjustly treated.

The paper refers also to the visits of Mr Ferdi Sabit Soyer, leader of the Republican Turkish Party United Forces (CTP-BG), to other political parties within the framework of the efforts of forming a new coalition government.

Meanwhile, under the title Unnecessary meetings, Turkish Cypriot daily HALKIN SESI newspaper (15.09.06) refers to Mr Soyers visit to the UBP and DP, noting that Mr Soyer is conducting these meetings while it is certain that the CTP will form a government with the newly established party.

Mr Soyer said that the meetings of CTP officials with the MPs who resigned from the UBP were not something secret and that they visited them to ask them if the information that they would resign was true.

Mr Huseyin Ozgurgun, leader of the UBP, said that the signals that the government will be formed with the new party show that the UBP will not participate in this government. He noted that Soyer visited him just for drinking coffee.

Mr Serdar Denktas, chairman of the DP, said that they did not discuss the issue of forming a government with Mr Soyer.

Turkish Cypriot daily CUMHURIYET newspaper (15.09.06) points out that no statement was made until now by the self-styled head of the religious affairs department, Ahmet Yonluer who is accused by politicians of making immoral suggestions.

Turkish Cypriot daily OZGUR DUSUNCE newspaper (15.09.06) reports that the General Secretary of the United Cyprus Party (BKP), Izzet Izcan has said that a new political structure is being prepared for the northern part of Cyprus by using unethical methods. We are face to face today with an interference and an operation. The AKP has been a side in this interference and operation, he added.

Furthermore, according to the paper, the Foreign Relations Secretary of the New Cyprus Party (YKP), Alpay Durduran has stated that Turkey is trying to form a new government in the occupied part of Cyprus and it seems that it will succeed. Let Mr Talat use for himself any definition he likes and let him say he is President, but it is shown that the issues here are administrated by Ankara, he noted.

Turkish Cypriot daily ORTAM newspaper (15.09.06) reports that the northern part of Cyprus will be administered through the mufti from now on and describes the new period as The Muftis era! .

Turkish Cypriot daily GÜNE^ newspaper (15.09.06) reports that the National Unity Party (UBP) decided to boycott the work of the parliament on Monday. [02] Statements by Gul after meeting the French Minister of Foreign Affairs

Turkish Cypriot daily HALKIN SES0 newspaper (15.09.06) reports that the Turkish Foreign Minister, Abdullah Gul has told his French counterpart that no elected government of Turkey will accept a demand which is not in conformity to the principles of justice in Cyprus. Furthermore, in statements yesterday during a joint press conference with Mr Philippe Douste - Blazy, Mr Gul argued that relating Turkeys EU process with the Cyprus problem is wrong and reiterated the allegation that the Turkish side has shown a constructive attitude on the Cyprus problem.

Noting that the Cyprus problem should not influence Turkeys negotiations towards the full membership, Gul alleged: If there are obligations deriving from the customs union, there are places for their solution.

Invoking diplomatic sources, the paper notes that Turkeys EU accession process and the Cyprus problem were discussed in detail during the Blazy - Gul meeting. The Turkish Minister noted that they will continue the reforms with determination. Turkish Cypriot daily YEN0 DÜZEN newspaper (15.09.06) reports that the Turkish Cypriot Primary School Teachers Trade Union (KTOS) organized yesterday a protest meeting in Limassol alleging that the government of the Republic of Cyprus prevents the right of the Turkish Cypriot children living in the above-mentioned city to be educated in their mother language.

Referring to the issue, Turkish Cypriot daily AFR0KA newspaper (15.09.06) wonders whether or not Greek Cypriot trade unions can organize a protest act in the occupied areas of Cyprus.

The paper reminds that Mr Soyer and Mr Talat like to say that there is more democracy in the occupied part than in the free area of the Island. They take pains over stressing this frequently especially after the referendum. The events we live, however, do not verify them.

[06] Statements by Ali Babacan regarding the Cyprus Problem

Illegal Bayrak television (14.09.06) broadcast that the Turkish Minister of State Ali Babacan who heads the countrys negotiations team for accession talks with the EU- has said that Ankara was working hard to prevent the Cyprus Problem from becoming an obstacle in the way of Turkeys EU accession process.

Speaking during a panel organized by the Turkish chambers and stock exchanges union, Mr Babacan reminded that Ankara, which had signed the additional protocol of the customs union agreement, was not under any obligation to open its ports and airports to Greek Cypriot registered vessels, as it was party to an ongoing dispute on the island.

Explaining that there were no more one-sided steps Turkey was obliged to take on the Cyprus Problem, Mr Babacan underlined once more the need that any steps taken in good will towards solving the current deadlock in Cyprus should be reciprocal and mutual.

Reiterating Turkeys readiness to resume the Cyprus negotiations process, Mr. Babacan said that Ankara was working hard to prevent the Cyprus problem from slowing down Turkeys EU accession process.

Furthermore, Ankara Anatolia news agency (14.09.06) reports that Ali Babacan, Turkish State Minister and Chief Negotiator for EU talks, who appeared on the Turkish NTV channel on Thursday, said in reference to Turkey's EU membership, that the screening process is going on as planned.

"If Turkey's EU process gets negatively affected because of the Cyprus issue, then this would have negative results for the whole international community," said Babacan.

[07] Erdogan: Nobody should expect a step in Cyprus

Turkish CNN Turk writes in its internet edition (15.09.06) that the Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan stated that Nobody should expect a step in Cyprus. Mr Erdogan who was speaking at a meeting of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) stated that in case the isolation on the occupation regime is not lifted, nobody should expect from Turkey to open its ports and its airports.

Mr Erdogan stated that various representatives of various countries go to occupied Cyprus and meet with the president and the prime minister. He added that investments have started and 10 hotels are about to finish. He also said that the president is receiving invitations to visit various countries and stated that Talat was received with an official ceremony by the President of Pakistan. Why all these did not happen before?, he wondered. Mr Erdogan also stated that if 24 member countries took it into their heads and they think to waste Turkey which has a population of 75 millions to south Cyprus which has a population of 600-650 thousands, it is their job to do. We said this to them openly and clearly, he noted. Erdogan went on and stated that if Turkey had not said yes on the issue of the Customs Union, South Cyprus would not be able to enter the Custom Union, but, as he stated, even there Turkey showed its good intentions and said yes to the Custom Union. Turkey is an exceptional country which can enter the Custom Union without being a member of the EU. What are you going to do about all these? Are you going to take us off from the Custom union? Therefore we are standing on a good ground. Do not worry at all, he stated.

In addition as Ankara Anatolia news agency (14.09.06) reported from Istanbul, Erdogan stated delivering his speech at the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce that there has been great progress in TRNC (breakaway regime in the occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus) recently, noting that investors showed great interest in TRNC.

Regarding Turkey's EU accession process, Erdogan stated, "Turkey has overcome several problems so far. The country is currently in the screening process which will end next month."

Erdogan noted that Turkey assumed an important mission regarding Lebanon. He stated that a motion regarding dispatch of Turkish troops to Lebanon was approved by the Turkish parliament, underlining that General Staff and Foreign Ministry were working on the matter currently.
